I'm using all three platforms of it and it looks like it's not as convenient to install materials etc that I download. Plus, I have to save space on my boot disk and need to keep heavy folders out of there. Therefore this short guide for others that have similar difficulties. Thea Render 2.x materials setup: -- Exit all programs using Thea (C4D, Rhino, SketchUp). -- You can install the materials for all Thea platforms in any common folder you like (on a disk with lots of free space). Unlocking a new material will add 5 units of that specific material to your settlement, which can be used to craft improved equipment, boosting research progress. In Thea Render, we have created a compact number of highly realistic materials using the most accurate physically based models. These models are designed to produce highly energy conservative material combinations. -- Run the programs that use Thea, open Thea's browser (it probably will not find much), and exit the programs (this is to initialize data in the new folder you just created. At this point, in the 'E: Thea Render' folder, there will be a number of subfolders like: crf Custom Materials Devices fre ies ior Locations Materials med Models OnlineRepository Presets RhinoConfig Scenes Skies Temp You could have more or less of them, depending on the platforms you use. -- Your old materials etc, should still be in their original folders. Copy them to their corresponding folders in 'E: Thea Render' -- Rename the original folders you just copied or hide them somehow (to verify that they get picked up from the new folder). -- Run the Thea programs again and verify that your old materials are there. If yes, you can delete the old folders you hid in the previous step. Installing new materials, etc: -- If the file is in the form xxxx.mat.thea, copy it into some folder inside the 'E: Thea Render Materials' to keep things neat. Either copy the new material into an existing subfolder that matches the material type, or create a new section (e.g. Metals), or a generic subfolder like NEW_MATS. -- If the file is in the form xxxx.mat.pack (which is a ZIP file), first open WinRAR, drop the.pack file into it and 'extract'. WinRAR will extract the contents in a folder with the same name as the.pack file. You can move the extracted folder into some subfolder like in the previous step. -- If the file is in the form xxxx.lib.thea, the only way I could find, is by using Thea in SketchUp. In Sketchup, open Thea Render's -> Tools and select 'Install Library'. Navigate to the.lib.thea file, click 'Open', check the 'Accept license agreement' and click the install button. This will move the library contents into the proper folder inside 'E: Thea Render' That's it. Everything you installed should be available to all Thea platforms. It seems to me that some materials are underpowered or don't have much use. So I'm making a post to list all my concerns. Feel free to agree, disagree or add to the list. * Straw type materials: They seem to have very few uses and generally are lackluster compared to other materials that can be used for the same thing. Currently their uses are restricted to gathering tools, since all other recipies can be made better with other materials. They don't have any special properties either and Nimblewood is outright useless since Wicket can make just as good tools, its too hard to get and other materials still beat it in other recipies. * Multiple materials have a clearly better alternative on the same tier and of the same type. Dryad wood is worse than Ancient wood, Cane is worse than Wicket, Gold is worse than Steel is worse than Silver, Fur is worse than Scale leather. Enchanted bones are fine since they have a speciallity though I think its a bit weak since magic isn't used that much, Granite is fine since its has stronger base attributes than Obsidian. * Gems are really weak overall. Base attributes are low for their tier, used very little and unlike one might think they give no special properies to normal items, they really should. Also I'm personally not finding most of their accessories and artifacts that great since the attributes they give are not used that much and the general strength of those attributes aren't that great. Except for Malachite and Amber. * Wood for my taste trails too far behind metals, bones, leathers and stones in base attributes with the exeption of Ancient wood weapons which kick ♥♥♥. Austin animal crackers date code. Also I think Ancient wood and Dryad wood should be stronger than Elven wood elf attractors in buildings. Silver and especially Mithril should also attract dwarves. Both make sense and would serve to balance elf and dwarf attraction vs. Other attractions. It would also help rationalize using a rare materials for buildings since that +1 base building attribute isn't really worth using enough materials to make mutiple pices of high-end equipment. While I agree with you on most of your points, there are a few things I would like to add: *In the case of the metals, gold and steel both attract other races to your settlement when used in construction. With my play style, I find gold to be more useful than silver, as I tend to rush a golden palisade. *In the case of gems, they offer the lowest base attributes for their tier, however they also produce the lowest wieght equipment. A 2-handed sword with diamond as the secondary material is 55 weight lighter than a weapon produced using moonstone. I find this very useful when equiping classes that tend to have a lower carrying limit. @Giant Dwarf Yeah, attractor materials are better for buildings, but silver still makes better equipment. I looked at the stats with gems in regards of weight saved vs. Base attrubute reduction. At the highest tier you save around 35% weight, at the cost of 25% base attributes. That is a horrible trade. Only a few characters by the time you have access to good gems really need low weight equipment anyway. @Khash Firestrom Awsome, looking forward to it. @urman.gamer Bows and crossbows are also the weakest pieces of equipment in the game and lowest on my list of priorities. One way or the other, weight isn't that big of an issue and metal, wood and bones make much better bows and crossbows. Enchanted bones are viable materials, just that I personally feel that the Leech damage from Dragon bones is just way better most of the time. Compared to that magic really isn't as important IMHO. Ancient wood and Moonstone are both very strong materials and I like them to bits as well.
